Itīs much fun, though lot of work as well.
Must be heated up several times during the coarse work. The more fine work, depicted here, donīt need so much heat-up`s anymore.
i read somewhere that some pitch is better tahn others- do u have a preference? i havent bought the equipment yet because im not sure if im going to like it. I tried hand engraving and that was a pain.
Traditionally itīs said that there are two types of pitch :
The black one and the red one.
The black is the harder of both,itīs used more for sharp contour work, the red, softer one more for voluminous,
plastical,organic work.
I only used the red one till now.
BUT :That three times i bought pitch that said to be the same quality,it always had a different consistence.
AND : The softness of pitch greatly depends on its
temperature,so also on the air temperature of your workplace.
So,I think You have to check it out by yourself.
I never tried engraving and always thaught that it
must be an annoying work process.
And I really love the work process of repousse,
although it takes a lot of time, and i think itīs
greatly different to engraving.
In the US, the black pitch can come in many different consistancies, and is of a very poor quality. There are recipes online. It's basically wax, tar, and sand. the German red pitch that we can order from tool catalogs is way better than any black pitch that can be bought, plus it isn't toxic. You can also heat the red with a hair drier, and clean it in alcohol; rather than burn it off leaving the room filled with toxic fumes. We have enough toxic stuff around us, without adding more to it.
When did it suddenly become cool to hate everything? It's a growing problem, especially in the entertainment world, and no one benefits from an increasingly hard to please, pessimistic audience.
A Special Collection of photographs i found this month that still haunts my mind. Show them some love There are always some i can`t include due to space, i try to make the features under 50 deviations to give them better exposure
